Wendy Keele
Wendy Keele is a new Assistant VP of Nebraska Growing Readers (NGR). Professionally, she has served as an Executive Director of a substance abuse coalition, Court Appointed Special Advocate staff, a Sixpence Home Visitor, and a Sixpence Child Care Partnership (CCP) coordinator and coach. Her educational background is in Home Economics and Textiles and Clothing, and the lived experiences of raising seven children. In 2020, Wendy completed a long-held goal to become a certificated teacher so she could be the CCP coordinator. She is a staunch supporter of public education and served eight years on the Hastings Public School Board. In her new role with NGR she will working with a team to make culturally appropriate books accessible to Nebraska children ages birth to five. Wendy will be working with interested collaboratives to make books accessible throughout their community. One of the most creative parts of the job will be working with interested community members to write books about their cultures, towns, hobbies, and so much more. Wendy wrote her first children’s book through Unite for Literacy about Fisher Fountain in Hastings, an iconic landmark. She plans on writing more books and working with others who want to do the same.
